SUMMARY:Intersectionality & Belonging: Seeing Young Children and Families Fully
DESCRIPTION:Every child and caregiver entering a new environment is asking the same question\, often without words: Do I belong here? Do you see me?  This interactive workshop is for anyone who works with children from before birth to age five and their families. We’ll explore intersectionality as a tool for seeing children and families more fully\, especially families whose identities our systems tend to overlook and under support. Through stories\, reflection\, and small-group dialogue\, you’ll look at how intersecting identities shape a family’s sense of belonging\, what belonging uncertainty can look like in young children and caregivers\, and how everyday moments can tell a family\, “I see you.” \nYou’ll leave with: \n\nA deeper understanding of intersectionality and why it matters in early childhood work\nA practical framework for building belonging with children and families\nClear\, actionable strategies you can use right away\n\nRegister now.

SUMMARY:The Biology of Love and Roots of Resilience: Biobehavioral Synchrony from Science to Intervention
DESCRIPTION:The talk will present our affiliative neuroscience perspective on resilience\, which contends that for young mammals\, who are born with immature brains and require caregiving do develop mechanisms of stress management and sociality\, systems that participate in bonding are those that sustain resilience.  I show how the biology of love and its core process biobehavioral synchrony underpin attachment and promote resilience. I describe how synchrony – the coordination of biology and behavior during social contact – emerges within the parent-infant bond\, grows to integrate more complex\, symbolic\, and reciprocal components of resonance\, and expands to other attachments the child will form throughout life\, impacting mental health up to adulthood. I address studies on brain-to-brain synchrony within the parent-child relationship and how they are altered by aspects of humans’ co-presence\, including chemosignals and technologically-assisted remote communication.  Translational implications are highlighted with the InSynch intervention for mothers suffering post-partum depression and its effects on symptom reduction\, caregiving behavior\, and inter-brain coordination.  The talk will conclude by contemplating how synchrony enables the transfer from the intimacy of the parent-infant bond to life within social groups and supports human endurance\, cooperation\, and the capacity for transcendence. \nRegister now. \n \nRUTH FELDMAN\, PhD\n \nRuth Feldman\, PhD is the Simms-Mann Professor of Developmental Social Neuroscience at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzlia with joint appointment at Yale Child Study Center.

SUMMARY:The Things Children Say: Turning Children’s Hard Questions into Engaged Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:In our fast-developing technological and global society\, Native children are exposed to a wide range of information\, experiences\, and relationships\, which they can find intriguing or challenging or confusing. Adults must help children navigate all that they see and hear\, and the questions that emerge. How do we engage our children in thinking about their curiosities? How do we ask questions about the hard things children experience or observe in life in our communities? How do we turn children’s questions into engaged learning and moments of connection? What are the issues we\, as adults\, struggle with that children teach us about? How do we create space for our own learning as we teach our Indige-babies about the world around them? In this episode\, we will explore these questions and experiences with panelists — parents\, teachers\, and program directors — who have insights and stories to share that can inform how we all can carve spaces for wondering with young children and finding answers together. \nTurtle Talk is back! We invite Native parents\, teachers\, and caregivers\, along with those working with Native children and families and those interested in the work of raising our Indigenous children\, to join us for the third season of Turtle Talk: Collectively Raising Indige-babies\, a BTC Family-to-Family Real Talk virtual conversation series! \nAll episodes are free and open access — register today for one or all conversations! All are welcome! \nThe series is convened by the Indigenous Early Learning Collaborative (IELC) Institute and is a fun way to engage parents and families in thinking forward about how we collectively raise Indigenous children and babies in a contemporary and fast-growing technological\, global\, Indigenous society. Turtle talk refers to our animal relatives speaking with one another and with us. The play on Indigenous babies\, “Indige-babies” for short\, in the title calls us to look just over the horizon and ask ourselves\, “What will the world be like for our babies/children and families? How does being raised in this fast-evolving world with the increasing demand of digital\, technological\, and cultural engagement impact our traditions and approaches to raising our babies?”

SUMMARY:The Ripple Effect
DESCRIPTION:This workshop presents an integrative framework for understanding and communication across systems about how trauma can affect a child\, a family\, and a system. The framework was developed by Chandra Ghosh Ippen\, Christopher Layne\, and Bob Pynoos of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) and is adapted from core trauma concepts identified and ratified by the NCTSN Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma Task Force. The Ripple Effect translates complex trauma concepts using metaphor\, visual models\, common language\, and rich case example and shows: 1) the domains of functioning affected by trauma; 2) the mechanisms through which trauma affects development; and 3) intervention pathways. This workshop offers foundational trauma knowledge for providers and highlights ways to share trauma theory with family members and across systems (e.g.\, schools\, child welfare\, mental health\, medical system\, judiciary\, police) as we work jointly to lessen the impact of trauma exposure. \nThere will be a 30-minute lunch break during both sessions. \nWednesday\, November 18 2026\, 9am – 2:30pm\nThursday\, November 19 2026\, 9am – 2:30pm\n\nRegister now.
