SUMMARY:Say ‘YES’ to kids with disabilities: Strategies and practices for including and affirming children with developmental delays or disabilities and the families who love them
DESCRIPTION:Every child deserves to be included in their community and to feel valued\, understood\, and supported. For children with developmental delays or disabilities\, access to inclusive and affirming environments can be hard to find. Rather than being told\, “Yes\, you’re welcome here\,” “Yes\, we can support you\,” and “Yes\, we understand”\, these children and their families are often told the opposite\, leading to exclusion and isolation. From childcare to education to medical services\, there are opportunities to deepen our commitment to inclusion and strengthen the skills necessary to feel confident saying “Yes” to children with developmental delays or disabilities. \nBring your curiosity and your wonder! In this beginner-friendly and inclusive 5-month community of practice\, providers will: \n1. Deepen their understanding of the systemic barriers that impact children with disabilities and their families\n2. Reflect on their relationship with and perspective on disability\n3. Learn about disability affirming language and positive identity development\n4. Explore the intersections between infant/early childhood mental health\, disability rights\, and social justice\n5. Identify ways their existing skills can be leveraged to support children with various disabilities and developmental delays\n6. Learn to create physically and emotionally accessible environments that support all children’s development\n7. Deepen awareness of their own nervous system responses and patterns in service of increasing their capacity to support children with a variety of access needs. Register now. \nThursday\, July 10 2025\, 9:30am – 2:30pm\nThursday\, August 14 2025\, 9:30am – 12:30pm\nThursday\, September 11 2025\, 9:30am – 12:30pm\nThursday\, October 9 2025\, 9:30am – 12:30pm\nThursday\, November 13 2025\, 9:30am – 12:30pm

SUMMARY:Is it "Challenging Behavior"?: Listening to Children's Voices
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will address the misconceptions about “challenging behaviors” in young children\, which are often influenced by outdated\, biased practices in early childhood education. We will explore how these views are shaped by oppressive stories about different identities and work toward building more respectful and empowering relationships with children. Register now. \n\nSession 1: Case study – identify the “challenging behavior”\, reframing the responsibility\nSession 2: Deconstructing behavior in the context of early childhood and oppressive stories\nSession 3: Strategy building; discipline vs punishment\nSession 4: Debrief on strategies; what worked/didn’t work?\n\nTuesday\, July 22 2025\, 11am – 1pm\nThursday\, July 24 2025\, 11am – 1pm\nTuesday\, July 29 2025\, 11am – 1pm\nThursday\, July 31 2025\, 11am – 1pm
